Orgenza:
Although silk originated in China, the word organzine comes from the town of Urgang in Turkestan, which was home to one of the most popular silk markets on the Silk Road. Organza arrived in Europe from China, via the Silk Road and has remained a desirable dress-making fabric ever since
Organza is a delicate, airy, and breathable fabric it requires a bit of your care so you can enjoy it for a long time.
-
Storing
To minimize wrinkles, place tissue paper between the folds of organza before storing it. Avoid using plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and lead to mold growth.
-
Spot treating
For stains, treat the stained area with a mild stain solution, let it soak for a few minutes, then wash the stained area with cold water.
-
Water testing
Before washing, test a small portion of the fabric in water to check for shrinking, wrinkling, stretching, or tightening. If the fabric reacts, dry clean it.
-
Washing
Hand wash organza in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid using bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh chemicals. You can also machine wash organza in a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase on the delicate cycle with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent.
-
Drying
Lay organza flat or hang it up to dry out of direct sunlight. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as this can cause wrinkles or tears.
-
Ironing
Steaming is generally safer and more effective than ironing organza. If you do use an iron, place a cloth between the iron and the organza.
