Georgette is a type of crêpe fabric that can be made from silk or synthetic fibers like rayon, viscose, and polyester. Silk georgette is considered the finest, and is prized for its luxurious feel and natural sheen. Georgette is sheer and lightweight, with a dull, matte finish. It's available in solid colors and prints, and is used for many items, including blouses, scarves, dresses, gowns, bridal wear, and party wear.

If cleaning at home following care instructions should be followed:

• Hand wash: Use cold water and a mild detergent. Soak the fabric in the tub, then gently move it around to distribute the soap. Squeeze out excess water, but avoid wringing. 
• Air dry: Lay the fabric flat to dry in a shaded area. Avoid using a dryer. 
• Iron: Use low heat and avoid steam to prevent iron burns. Steaming is preferred over ironing to maintain the fabric's texture. 
• Machine wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a delicate cycle with a mesh laundry bag. 
• Stain clean: Use a fabric-specific stain cleaner. 
• Choose thread: When sewing, use fine machine-embroidery thread in silk or cotton. Polyester threads can cause georgette to pucker.
